License

How footage from Verified Footage may be used.

Every clip carries two independent labels. Its classification tells you how real it is (how the footage was captured and verified). Its license tells you how you may useit. This page is about the license. Most footage is clean environmental b-roll and is free for commercial use; a clip is only marked editorial when it contains something that wouldn’t clear for commercial use.

Commercial

Clean footage with no recognizable brands, people, or copyrighted works. Use it for almost anything.

  • ✓ Ads, products, and paid promotion
  • ✓ Social, editorial, and personal projects
  • ✓ AI training, inference, and recommendations
  • ✓ Reference, reporting, and commentary
Editorial use only

Contains a recognizable brand or logo, an identifiable person, or a copyrighted work. Fine to inform, report, post, and train on — but not to sell from.

  • ✓ Reporting, commentary, and research
  • ✓ Social and other non-commercial content
  • ✓ AI training, inference, and recommendations
  • ✗ Ads, products, or paid promotion
  • ✗ Implying a brand or person endorses you

How the license is set

It’s decided automatically while a clip is processed — no extra step for contributors. A vision pass reviews the footage and defaults to commercial, dropping to editorial only when it detects a brand or logo, an identifiable person, or a copyrighted work. When a clip is editorial, the reason is shown on the clip (e.g. “Nike logo”) so you know exactly why.

Your responsibility

The automated check is best-effort, not a legal clearance — it can miss things and flag things that are fine. Footage is provided as-is, and you are responsible for clearing any rights your specific use requires (model releases, trademark, property, music, and so on). Editorial clips are not cleared for commercial use. If in doubt, treat a clip as editorial.

Attribution

Not required, but always appreciated.
